Healthy Lifestyle Guide For Busy Living

images2

We know that health is important. However our busy lives may have affected the way we maintain a healthy lifestyle these days. We know eating balanced meals is important but we need to give some time consider how we eat too. Do we often much quickly and stuff food into the mouth in rush? This is definitely not healthy no matter what our excuses are. By taking time to bite and chew the food will make sure the food is properly channeled to the stomach. It helps the body to digest and benefit from the food we ate. There are many people who want to save time to complete more work by eating right in front of their computer while typing away. While it raises the work productivity, it certainly not raises the rate of a healthy lifestyle. If the lunch time is one hour, make us of the time to enjoy the food. Even the food can be finished less than an hour, take some time to rest and do things that are not connected to work. Our mind needs to be free to recharged and refreshed. In fact after much rest, it helps the productivity of our work.

Most of us know smoking is not good for health. But even if you are not smoking make sure you are not sitting in the midst of people who smoke. Inhaling secondary smoke poses danger to your lungs. Even if they are your family, colleagues or friends, you could walk away politely or tell them you love your health very much.

Another aspect to a healthy lifestyle guide is to cut down on the stress in our lives. Some stresses are good to motivate us but if it affects our emotions badly, it is time to do something about it. Find out what are the causes for the stress. If there are things that could be totally thrown away or eliminated, do it. If there are unresolved problems with a person or people, meet up and talk out a solution. If it is work-related stress, discuss with the boss or superior about ways to handle the tasks. Above all, try the best to clear off stress by voicing it up. Confide in someone that can be trusted to listen with a rationale mind and not gossip. Ask for counsel and advises.

Tips For Dry Skin

images7

Dry skin is characterized by roughness and tightness. There will also be flakes on the skin. This is especially seen on the face as this is the area most exposed to the sun. Skins on the shins, the hands, and the sides of the abdomen are also prone to dryness. In hot weather, it often peels off while cold weather tightens it up. Dry Skin can be genetic or can be caused by severe weather conditions or by usage of chemical cosmetics or soaps.

Dry skin does not only look unattractive, it may even progress to contact dermatitis, a condition wherein the topmost layer of the skin becomes cracked, rough and scaly. Well, I guess nobody wants to suffer from that. Just take a quick look at the large selection of skin care products in an average department store and you will understand what I mean!

If the skin is dry due to external conditions, ensuring to take a few precautions can rectify the condition. In the case of a heating system being constantly used at home, it is wise to use a humidifier. Avoid excessive sweating and scratchy clothes as these might case the dry skin to itch. Vaselines and petrolatum are some of the most effective moisturizers in the market. They are however not often used especially on the face because both tend to be greasy on the skin.

There are many natural dry skin care tips that work, but another one that might be useful is to be careful when drying with a towel. You can rub hard enough to rub the moisture out of your skin. You should towel blot when ever possible. Make sure you use some type of moisturizer on your face, and neck, and hands morning and night.

Dry skin care is not about just using moisturizers but also using them properly. The best procedure is to cleanse the skin before the application of moisturizer. You can make it even more effective by applying the moisturizer while the skin is still damp (after cleansing). This factor needs to be stressed out because chemicals can cause allergic reactions and rashes quite easily. Therefore, pick up the hypoallergenic and sensitive skin variant of cosmetic products that both your local supermarkets and drug stores have for sale.

Occupational Therapy to Improve Improper Pencil Grip in Children

women12

There are a number of developmental, cognitive and intellectual aberrations that may present with difficulties in learning capabilities and school performance. Healthcare providers suggest early identification and appropriate management or training can lead to absolutely normal or near normal development in children that does not interfere with personal, social and occupational aspects of life in adulthood.

Improper pencil grip is the leading cause of poor handwriting as a result of impaired motor skills. It has been observed that development of pencil grip and good hand-writing is an automatic reflex that develops during the early years of schooling; however, in some children this reflex is significantly impaired. There are a number of parameters that are used by educators and teachers to determine the hand-writing and pencil grip in school- aged children as young as 9 to 10 years. The parameters like use of appropriate spacing between letters and words, accuracy of letter formation, legibility, letter size uniformity, letter slant, and alignment of words on the sheet are used as important tool in the assessment of improper pencil grip in children.

Research conducted by Carter and Synolds suggested that the majority of the children with handwriting abnormalities develop symptoms of learning disabilities in coming years.

Colleen M. Schneck conducted a research study on 60 school-aged children to assess the handwriting skills in accordance with the pencil grip and identified that the children who presented with poor handwriting also performed poorly at pencil gripping test (drawing tasks) and also manifested symptoms of impaired proprioceptive-kinesthetic awareness (impaired hand preference and perception of pencil and paper and distance of pencil from paper).

Research conducted by Benbow suggests that the position of head and distance of the writing surface from eyes plays a very important role in the development of improper grip. He explained that if the actual cause is not identified at an early age, the chances are high that the developmental disabilities or learning deficits may go unnoticed or misdiagnosed, affecting the entire life of the child. Benbow coined the term somesthetic feedback that is a form of visual compensation as the distance between the eyes and writing surface is very little, leading to fatigued visual input.

Research conducted by Laszlo and Bairstow suggested that children are unable to master their writing skills and proprioceptive-kinesthetic ability (the response of joints to the movements performed by fingers) until at least 6 years of age; but various simple tasks can help in early determination of impaired writing skills. For example an inability to color within boundaries or the inability to build blocks suggests a sluggish proprioceptive-kinesthetic capacity.

Laszlo suggests that assessment of such children in second standard is very helpful in reaching to a diagnosis to establish if the child needs therapy or mere lifestyle modification is enough. Occupational therapy is helpful in all such children as the trained therapists can identify and diagnose improper pencil grip reflex earlier than the healthcare providers and advise therapies for treatment.

Some Useful Skin Care Tips

Cleansing

Cleansing is the first and very essential step in your daily skin care routine.

Cleansers can be creams, milks, lotions, gels and liquids. Cleansers are a mixture of oil, wax and water which have been formulated to go well with different skin types. Cotton -pad dipped in fresh milk available at home, is an equally useful cleanser.

The correct way to apply cleansers on your face is in an upward and outward movement. The skin should not be stretched out, dragged or pulled. Put down the cleanser on for a minute or two so as to release the dirt and make up. Remove it either by a cotton wool or with a tissue paper, again using an upward and out ward movement. At last rinse with water.

Masks

Generally all face masks have some sort of a cleansing action. Different ingredients are used in the masks, depending on the skin type. Clay, form an important ingredient of many face masks. It helps to remove dirt, sebum, and dead skin so that the skin looks clean, and youthful.

Fullers earth is a particular type of clay often used in face packs. Fullers earth contains aluminium silicate. As it dries on the skin, it removes the superficial dead cells and blots up any excessive oil on the skin. It is therefore superb for an oily skin but should not be used on dry skin.

Also added to many masks are natural ingredients-cucumbers, curds, lemon juice and Brewer’s Yeast. It helps to restores the acid / alkali balance of the skin.

Toning

Various skin care products include cosmetics like skin fresheners, toners and astringents which mainly contains alcohol and water. These are used after cleansing the skin to tone up the skin; they also restore the acid/ alkali balance of the skin. Finally, wipe away any last traces of dirt or oil with a skin freshener or toner (cleansing milk) which suits your skin type. Non alcoholic fresheners are for dry and sensitive skin. Those containing alcohol (astringent) are for oily skin. People having combination skin should use toner and astringent.

Moisturizing

A moisturizer is particularly helpful for dry skins. Oil free moisturizers can be used for oily skins.

There are two types of moisturizers: Oil – in water emulsions and water -in -oil emulsions. The moisturizer you select should suit your skin type. For normal skins, a water based moisturizer containing a little oil is suitable. Sensitive skins and dry skins need moisturizers having high oil content.

Protecting

The sun is the environmental factor that is most harmful to the health and appearance of the skin. The Ultraviolet radiation from sunlight can cause permanent damage to the skin. It can cause the skin to sag, lose softness and form wrinkles.

Sunscreen and foundation protects our skin from damaging ultraviolet rays.
